MINUTES OF THE SELECTMENS’ MEETING
TOWN OF FRYE ISLAND, MAINE
May 30, 1998

The location of the meeting was the Frye Island Administration Building.

The meeting was called to order at 11:55 a.m. by Kathleen Potts, Frye Island Town Clerk.

PRESENT: Selectmen Fogg, Lowe, Potts, Tedford, and Svetlichny; Vic Richards, Island Manager

ATTENDEES: MSC and FII Board Members: Steve Comley, Ken Dolloff, Jim O’Connor, Mark Thomas, Steve Persson, and Ernie Wrzesinsky

MINUTES: Minutes of the May 2, 1998 Town Meeting were approved as submitted.

PETITION AND COMMUNICATIONS: None.

REPORT OF ISLAND MANAGER: Vic Richards reported that the Town Clerk from Kennebunk is currently orienting the office staff in procedures necessary as we become a full-fledged town. The new water intake line has been installed, which should help alleviate potential algae problems. Island roads are dusty, but in good condition; Calcium Chloride will be put down earlier than usual. Three crews are currently on the Island and are chipping brush and debris left from the storm. In terms of health and safety, radios which are compatible with Raymond Rescue have been ordered; the new fire engine being purchased from Raymond is expected to arrive by June 27; and another truck has been secured. Sheriff Deputies will stay on island, allowing us to have 24-hour availability if needed.

OLD BUSINESS:

WARRANT ARTICLES FOR TOWN MEETING ON JULY 3, 1998

The Selectmen reviewed the Warrant Articles as distributed by Joe Potts. (See attached)

It was suggested that Article 19 be changed by deleting Committee/Board, and inserting and between Town and Selectmen. The article would then read:

"To vote to compensate the Selectmen for performing Town duties by paying each Selectman two ferry tickets for each Town and Selectmen meeting attended, effective July 3, 1998; this compensation level can be changed at a future Town Meeting, if needed."

10-98 Robert Fogg moved to accept the Warrant Articles as modified; The motion was seconded by Joe Potts. Motion carried unanimously, 5-0.

NEW BUSINESS:

NOMINATIONS FOR THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN

Elections for the Board of Selectmen will take place at the Town Meeting on July 3, 1998. Several people have indicated an interest in running for office, and nominations will be taken from the floor, as well. Three people will be elected by written ballot: one person for a three-year term, one person for a two-year term, and one person for a one-year term.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The next Selectmen’s Meeting is on July 4, 1998, at 8:00 a.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:40 p.m.
